Red Paper, Blue Paper

Red Paper, Blue Paper

Locked inside a Japanese school at night, a student searches for their friend Miho, who went to the toilet and never came back. They say a voice behind the door of the last stall asks, "Red paper or blue paper?" A horror game about Aka Manto, the most famous Japanese school legend. Play with headphones, in the dark. Plays on phones too.

About this game

Aka Manto ("Red Cloak") is one of the most famous ghost stories told in Japanese schools. Students say that if you go into the last stall of the school toilet, a voice behind the door asks, "Red paper or blue paper?", and whichever you answer, something terrible happens. Children in Japan have been passing the story on to each other for decades.

In the game you are a student locked inside the school at night, searching the dark corridors for your friend Miho, with no flashlight. Rain, the hum of the lights, dripping water, your own footsteps: every sound might be telling you something. The dread builds slowly, then breaks all at once.

Tips

• Read the notebook and notes you find carefully. The rule is in there.
• Play with headphones, with the lights off. Hearing where a sound comes from matters.
• Don't rush. Look at every door, floor and dark corner.
• There are sudden jump scares and very loud sounds. Set your volume before you start.
